GO FISH! is a functional bike rack that was fabricated and dedicated to the Nevin Fish Hatchery, the oldest managed DNR facility, by Metro Transit in 2003. This hatchery location manages fish resources to promote a healthy and sustainable environment. Artist, Brooke Wentland, was commissioned by the Madison Public Art Project to revitalize this public art “sculpture” depicting a colorful brook trout, a native fish found in Wisconsin waters and raised at the Hatchery. Wentland’s artistic visual narrative reinterprets the fish species’ distinctive marble pattern and spotted sides in a colorful Pop Art inspired expression.
This Public Art project encourages use of the nearby Capitol City State Trail, inspires all to enjoy the great outdoors of Wisconsin and offers an exciting and unexpected way to engage with art in our everyday lives.

About the Artist @brookewentland.art

Brooke is an art director and graphic designer located in Madison, Wisconsin.
"I have had my hand in many applications of design. My work can be seen on Schwinn or Mongoose bicycles, environmental-related signage at our city or state parks, logos on various products, and I also have experience with national branding and clients such as Verizon, Smuckers, Tippmann (paintball), Folgers, and Jif, and I have created many designs which include the adorable Pillsbury doughboy. I love creating booklets and brochures and enjoy the challenge of page layout. My work has focused on technical materials, specifically engineering strategy and processes, challenging me to take abstract and complex subject matter and formulate design solutions that engage and inform while maintaining an appropriate image for the organization. I enjoy work that promotes local events and organizations as it allows me to contribute to my community and local causes".
About Nevin Fish Hatchery

"Nevin is the oldest of all DNR-managed lands, acquired by the state in 1876 for use as a fish hatchery. The Nevin Springs Fish and Wildlife Area is located in the City of Fitchburg south of the City of Madison and is adjacent to the Nevin Fish Hatchery, the DNR's South Central Regional Office and Service Center. The area is managed for fish and wildlife habitat with hunting and other secondary, compatible recreational activities. The property's fourteen natural springs are part of the Nine Springs E-Way Corridor and feed into the Yahara River System. The Capital City State Trail now passes through the natural area portion of the property; it is included in the Capital Springs Centennial Recreational Planning Boundary."
